Le Bourg de Louzac <\/strong> 16370 LOUZAC SAINT ANDR\u00c9<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019\u00e9glise Saint-Sulpice d\u00e9pend de la paroisse Notre-Dame-des-Borderies qui regroupe 7 clochers : Cherves, Richemont, Br\u00e9ville, Louzac, Saint-Andr\u00e9, Mesnac et Saint-Sulpice.<\/p>\n\n\n

Vicairie perp\u00e9tuelle unie autrefois au chapitre cath\u00e9dral de Saintes, l’\u00e9difice faisait partie de l’archipr\u00eatr\u00e9 de Jarnac. D’origine 12e si\u00e8cle, l’\u00e9glise fut incendi\u00e9e et reconstruite. Le clocher remonte au 16e si\u00e8cle tout comme le portail. Des chapelles furent appliqu\u00e9es sur les c\u00f4t\u00e9s de la deuxi\u00e8me trav\u00e9e de la nef : \u00e0 l’\u00e9poque romane, trav\u00e9e sous clocher sud \u00e0 coupole sur pendentifs avec trou pour les cloches ; aux 14e et 15e si\u00e8cles, au nord, trav\u00e9e vo\u00fbt\u00e9e d’ogives. Des travaux cons\u00e9quents furent entrepris dans la seconde moiti\u00e9 du 19e si\u00e8cle. Le ch\u0153ur est vo\u00fbt\u00e9 d’un cul de four en brique. Le portail de la fa\u00e7ade, en plein cintre, a conserv\u00e9 un riche d\u00e9cor de feuillages sur les tailloirs et les chapiteaux. De nombreuses traces de graffiti sont lisibles.
