Am\u00e9lie Nothomb ose explorer, \u00e0 la premi\u00e8re personne, les \u00e9tats d\u2019\u00e2me de J\u00e9sus au temps de sa passion. L\u2019occasion d\u2019une belle m\u00e9ditation sur ce que veut dire avoir un corps.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous reprenons ci-dessous l\u2019article de Dominique Greiner paru le 23\/8\/2019 dans La Croix<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Soif, d\u2019Am\u00e9lie Nothomb, Albin Michel, 152 p.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

D\u2019aucuns trouveront pr\u00e9tentieux le nouveau livre d\u2019Am\u00e9lie Nothomb. Pour qui se prend la romanci\u00e8re, qui ose imaginer ce que fut le monologue int\u00e9rieur de J\u00e9sus dans les heures de sa Passion ? D\u2019autres lui reprocheront une trop grande libert\u00e9 par rapport aux textes du Nouveau Testament, notamment quand elle \u00e9voque une relation amoureuse avec Marie Madeleine, ou fait dire \u00e0 J\u00e9sus qu\u2019il n\u2019a jamais prononc\u00e9 telle ou telle parole contenue dans les \u00c9critures. Mais un roman n\u2019est pas parole d\u2019\u00c9vangile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans ce livre au titre lapidaire, Am\u00e9lie Nothomb offre une belle r\u00e9flexion \u2013 une m\u00e9ditation ? \u2013 sur ce que signifie avoir un corps. Sans corps, on ne peut \u00e9prouver de sentiments, faire l\u2019exp\u00e9rience de la soif ou de la mort. La romanci\u00e8re imagine ce qui traverse l\u2019esprit de J\u00e9sus dans les derni\u00e8res heures de sa vie, depuis son proc\u00e8s et jusqu\u2019\u00e0 son ensevelissement, et m\u00eame apr\u00e8s. Le temps de la Passion ravive la m\u00e9moire d\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nements, d\u2019exp\u00e9riences, de rencontres marquantes\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le temps de la Passion est aussi celui de l\u2019introspection<\/strong>
Le J\u00e9sus d\u2019Am\u00e9lie, qui se qualifie de \u00ab faux calme \u00bb, vit avec intensit\u00e9 sa condition corporelle, jouissant de chaque moment, m\u00eame les plus anodins : \u00ab Quand je m\u2019allonge pour dormir, ce simple abandon me procure un plaisir si grand que je dois m\u2019emp\u00eacher de g\u00e9mir. Manger le plus humble brouet, boire de l\u2019eau m\u2019arracherait des soupirs de volupt\u00e9 si je n\u2019y mettais pas bon ordre. \u00bb Ce qui fait dire \u00e0 J\u00e9sus : \u00ab J\u2019ai la conviction infalsifiable d\u2019\u00eatre le plus incarn\u00e9 des humains. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019\u00e9preuve de la Passion n\u2019en sera que plus terrible : l\u2019\u00e9coute des accusations \u2013 des miracul\u00e9s ingrats qui se plaignent que les miracles dont ils ont b\u00e9n\u00e9fici\u00e9 n\u2019ont pas chang\u00e9 leur vie dans le sens attendu \u2013, la peur du condamn\u00e9 \u00e0 mort dans l\u2019attente de son ex\u00e9cution, la couronne d\u2019\u00e9pines, la flagellation, le poids du bois sur les \u00e9paules, les chutes, les clous qui p\u00e9n\u00e8trent la chair, la soif, la mort. \u00ab L\u2019assoiff\u00e9 est dans une telle pr\u00e9sence que c\u2019en est g\u00eanant. Nul besoin de gloser l\u00e0-dessus. Mourir, c\u2019est faire acte de pr\u00e9sence par excellence. \u00bbLe temps de la Passion est aussi celui de l\u2019introspection. Le regret lui vient d\u2019avoir une fois dans sa vie \u00ab laiss\u00e9 (s) on d\u00e9sir se transformer en col\u00e8re \u00bb, en maudissant un figuier qui ne portait pas de figues dont il aurait aim\u00e9 se rassasier. \u00ab J\u2019ai pr\u00e9text\u00e9 une parabole, pas la plus convaincante. Comment ai-je pu commettre une injustice pareille ? Ce n\u2019\u00e9tait pas la saison des figues. En v\u00e9rit\u00e9, ce jour-l\u00e0, j\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 commun. \u00bb Il se souvient aussi avec \u00e9motion des \u00eatres chers (sa m\u00e8re, Joseph, la si belle Marie de Magdala) \u2013 \u00ab avant l\u2019Incarnation, j\u2019ai peu de souvenirs \u00bb. Il pense \u00e0 ses disciples avec une bienveillante lucidit\u00e9 sur les limites et les qualit\u00e9s de chacun. Pierre : \u00ab Je sais pourtant qu\u2019il me reniera, mais il m\u2019inspire une telle confiance. \u00bb Jean : \u00ab Je sais que l\u2019\u00e9coute de Jean est amour et me bouleverse. \u00bb Judas : \u00ab Il aurait d\u00e9courag\u00e9 n\u2019importe qui, il m\u2019a d\u00e9courag\u00e9 plus d\u2019une fois. L\u2019aimer relevait de la gageure et je ne l\u2019en aimais que plus. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Une mani\u00e8re de parler de la foi<\/strong>
Mais ce J\u00e9sus si incarn\u00e9 n\u2019est pas qu\u2019un homme. Il est le fils de qui il tient sa condition charnelle. Et c\u2019est vers celui qu\u2019il appelle p\u00e8re que le crucifi\u00e9 adresse ses r\u00e9criminations. Une plainte path\u00e9tique qui est aussi une preuve d\u2019amour. \u00ab Cette crucifixion est une b\u00e9vue. Le projet de mon p\u00e8re consistait \u00e0 montrer jusqu\u2019o\u00f9 on pouvait aller par amour. (\u2026) Pourquoi fais-tu cela ? Je te critique. Ai-je dit que je ne t\u2019aimais pas ? Je t\u2019en veux, je suis f\u00e2ch\u00e9 contre toi. L\u2019amour autorise de tels sentiments. Que sais-tu de l\u2019amour ? C\u2019est bien l\u00e0 le probl\u00e8me. Tu ne connais pas l\u2019amour. L\u2019amour est une histoire, il faut un corps pour la raconter. \u00bb Et c\u2019est ce corps souffrant qui parle, exprime ses doutes, r\u00e9fl\u00e9chit sur le sens du mot \u00ab croire \u00bb, anticipe les douteuses interpr\u00e9tations de sa mort ignoble : \u00ab L\u2019id\u00e9e m\u00eame d\u2019une expiation r\u00e9pugne par son absurde sadisme. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c0 travers les mots et les doutes qu\u2019Am\u00e9lie Nothomb imagine traverser la conscience de J\u00e9sus, c\u2019est aussi une mani\u00e8re de parler de la foi qui est interrog\u00e9e. Il faut un langage incarn\u00e9 pour parler de l\u2019Incarnation. La romanci\u00e8re y excelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
